Jackie McLean’s Artists Collective
Needs Your Financial Support
shem.gif
The Artists Collective founded in 1970 by the late world renowned alto  saxophonist, composer, educator and community activist Jackie McLean as an interdisciplinary arts and cultural institution serving the Greater Hartford area is in danger of closing its doors.

It is the only multi-arts and cultural organization of its kind in Connecticut emphasizing the cultural and artistic contributions of the African Diaspora with emphasis on music and jazz education.
Jackie McLean’s initial intent was to give youth an alternative to street activity, and especially the horrors of drug addiction.

Dwindling corporate and private donations have forced the nearly 50 year old, storied institution to appeal to the public for financial support for the first time since its founding.

The Artists Collective has touched the lives of thousands of Greater Hartford/Connecticut youth and their families by exposing students and the community at large to the great and too often overlooked artists of the past and present, with professional concerts that have featured the great innovators such as: Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey and many others. Many of today’s emerging jazz musicians had their first exposure, and earliest training through the Artists Collective, most notably Cindy Blackman and Jimmy Greene to name a few.

The Collective continues to offer the highest quality training in the performing arts-dance, theatre, music and visual arts.

Unfortunately, the challenges facing youth today are even greater now than they were in 1970  when the Collective was founded.

Please consider supporting the Artists Collective today.

Or mail your donation to:
Artists Collective, Inc.
1200 Albany Ave.
Hartford, CT 06112

Thank you in advance for your support.

Dollie McLean
Founding Executive Director
