Baum’s band gelled beautifully in their ensemble roles and struck tasteful sparks off each other when required, Colligan producing some rich, cascading explorations of relatively complex material, and both Baum and Haskins powerful and emotive in their solos. The unusual front-line combination… resulted in some intriguing textures … and Hirshfield and Weidenmueller providing brisk and flawless rhythmic support throughout an absorbingly varied program. This was a classy, musical performance from a top-notch band."
